Healing Relationship & Couple Issues In Colorado | Trauma‑Informed Counseling
Healing for Couples & Relationships
If you and your partner are feeling stuck, distant, or caught in the same painful arguments, you are not alone and you are not broken. Couples therapy and relationship counseling can offer a safe, grounding space to slow things down, understand what’s really happening underneath the conflict, and begin to reconnect. Together, we can gently explore how stress, anxiety, trauma, and life changes are impacting your communication, trust, and intimacy. My work is trauma-informed, attachment-based, and emotionally focused, helping you both feel safer, more understood, and more supported as you move toward healing.
How Relationship Struggles Can Show Up
• You may notice more criticism, shutting down, or feeling like you’re walking on eggshells around each other, which can leave both of you feeling lonely even when you’re together.
• Conversations might quickly turn into arguments, or you may avoid talking altogether because you’re afraid of making things worse, leading to a growing sense of distance and disconnection.
• Past trauma, unresolved hurt, or big life stressors—like parenting, work, illness, or loss—can trigger old survival strategies that show up as anger, withdrawal, or numbing in your current relationship.
• Emotional and physical intimacy can feel harder to access when your nervous systems are overwhelmed, making it difficult to relax, trust, and feel truly close with one another.
Topics We May Explore In Couples & Relationship Therapy
In couples therapy and relationship counseling, we’ll explore the patterns that keep pulling you into conflict and work together to create new ways of connecting. This might include learning practical communication tools so you can really hear each other, express needs without blame, and repair after arguments. We may gently unpack trust injuries, betrayals, or past hurts, and build a safer foundation through clearer boundaries, emotional attunement, and shared meaning. For couples impacted by trauma, we can integrate trauma-informed couples counseling and EMDR-informed approaches to support nervous system regulation, so that safety and intimacy become more possible again.
My Approach To Couples & Relationship Therapy
My approach to couples therapy is warm, collaborative, and deeply respectful of each person’s story and nervous system. Drawing from attachment-based and emotionally focused therapy, I help partners understand the deeper needs and fears underneath their reactions, rather than framing anyone as “the problem.” Because I am trauma-informed, I pay close attention to how your body and nervous system respond in moments of stress, using gentle, somatic and EMDR-informed tools to support regulation and safety. We move at a pace that feels manageable for both of you, building small, consistent moments of connection, understanding, and repair over time.
What To Expect In Couples & Relationship Sessions
In our couples sessions, we’ll start by creating a sense of safety and clarity about what each of you hopes will be different in your relationship. I’ll guide you through structured conversations that slow down conflict, make space for each partner’s emotions, and support more vulnerable, honest sharing. We’ll practice new communication skills in real time, focusing on how to stay regulated, listen with curiosity, and respond with care instead of defensiveness or shutdown. Over time, sessions may also weave in trauma-informed education, nervous system tools, and EMDR-informed work when helpful, so that healing feels grounded, sustainable, and embodied for both of you.
Who Couples & Relationship Therapy Can Help
Couples and relationship therapy can support you whether you’re dating, engaged, married, partnered, or in a non-traditional or non-monogamous relationship structure. I welcome partners navigating anxiety, trauma histories, neurodivergence, cultural or family differences, life transitions, parenting stress, or questions about sex and intimacy. Therapy can be especially helpful if you care deeply about each other but feel stuck in recurring patterns of conflict, disconnection, or mistrust. Together, we’ll honor the strengths that already exist in your relationship while working toward more safety, emotional connection, and a shared path forward that feels aligned for both of you.
